keeping it together
By spotogspindel | July 31, 2013
This is a very abstract piece I´ve been working on. It´s made of rake-fired pottery, the base is wood. The wire is actually a leather-string.
My initial thought was that I wanted to make a slightly political statement, illustrating how global warming is causing the poles to melt. And with a sort of “desperate times call for desperate measures”-touch to it. I wanted the string to symbolically sew the two melting icebergs together.
I have to admit, you need a pretty good imagination to understand my original thought. It could just as well be a tattered corset, laced together over dark skin. Or we can just leave it title-less and abstract, and not tell anyone…

Very cool looking — and if only it were so easy to lace the world together to protect against the damage we’ve done. I saw them doing some rake at Makers Faire in Detroit last week. It made me think of you! 🙂
