Unfolding fern baby-bib!

By spotogspindel | June 13, 2009

I had already started to make this baby-bib this morning, when I checked Inspire Me Thursday´s page, and saw that the theme this week is “Child Art”. As I don´t have a baby, my old teddy-bear will be modeling tonight :-)

The bib is made of a 50% linen and 50% cotton-fabric, fused with a solid plastic on one side. I wanted to decorate it, and tried my silk-screen with a picture of a fern unfolding. The original photo it is based on is a Karl Bossenfeldt. What I like about this motif is that even though it is an organic shape, it is also a very clear and symbolic heart-shape.

My Mom told me the best bibs had wide shoulders. That´s why my bear has a hard time showing his arms. He simply isn´t as wide-shouldered as a baby. So here is another picture of it.

It is held together with velcro in the neck. To be honest, I have yet to try to wash this fabric, and am not sure how well it will look after thorough use… So this is my trial-and-error-1st-take. I am also a bit uncertain about the color brown on linen on a bib. Does it look like food-spill? The reason I DID choose brown, is because in the rest of the series (new post tomorrow) brown looks very well.

Oh, and no it doesn’t look like a food spill. Too artistic for that.

I love your design! I imagine you will be printing it in lots of different colours and repeats too. Have fun!I’m intriqued to see the rest of your series in brown and will check in soon

This piece of work is great. The design is simple but effective.
