the looong lighthouse

By spotogspindel | July 19, 2012

Today I´m gonna kindly ask for your opinion.

I´ve been working on this long lighthouse, 20×80 cm (8×24 inches), and am still not sure if I´m satisfied with the waves. They´re kind of fun&funky, but I´m not sure if they go wit the rest of the lighthouse. It is meant to be children´s illustrational art, so naive is allowed, but maybe this is too much.

But what do you think? Replies on this or any other comments will greatly be appreciated.

I don’t mind the naive waves one bit actually! I think what is off for me, is the color of the sky compared to the color of the water – I think they are too close in saturation, but one is warm, and the other is towards purple. I think maybe that’s why it feels like the water doesn’t fit in. And perhaps you need more difference from side to side of the field of water, or top to bottom, with light and shadow – like the lighthouse does?

I adore this lighthouse – I think it will make an excellent children’s illustration!

I dont care for the stylized waves. Not congruent with the rest of the image. I suggest you consider a more realistic texture such as you have in the background, middle right.
    And I like your style

Thank you, both of you! I have taken your feedback and altered it. I´ll show you the new version soon 🙂
