DOF´s new multi-purpose ship was christened yesterday at Aukra STX EuropeAS. Here are pictures from onboard showing some of the artwork. These first pictures are from the main lounge. The ship will be working outside the coast of Brazil, and that is why I have chosen to work with a green theme. Both in color and more as an environmental appreciation. Very much inspired with the Amazonas, the rain-forrest and it´s wild-life, I have worked with new techniques, fusing embroidery and painted papers and painting on plaster amongst others.
Trees are the earth’s endless effort to speak to the listening heaven.
RABINDRANATH TAGORE

There is a pleasure in the pathless woods,
There is a rapture on the lonely shore,
There is society, where none intrudes,
By the deep sea, and music in its roar:
I love not man the less, but Nature more.
~George Gordon, Lord Byron

Part of the main lounge, with a view into the smokers lounge through the windows.

These old fishing-boats are from Denmark.

And here is the mess:

All the different birds are machine embroidered. And the background is acrylics painted on watercolor-paper.

Here is the picture in the conference-room. It is 80×200 cm.

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world. Indeed it´s the only thing that ever has.
Margareth Mead
And here are the pictures in the stairs:

This picture is very special to me. Karoline, Axel´s daughter took this picture at age 14. Eating at a side-walk restaurant in Venice, she noticed how the vinegar in the oil placed on the table, reflected the trees surrounding them. She photographed it, and I´ve worked with the image afterwards, adjusting colors and adding the text. Which is an exert from Chief Seattle´ s famous speech.

To see a world in a grain of sand,
And a heaven in a wild flower,
Hold infinity in the palm of your hand,
An eternity in an hour.
WILLIAM BLAKE

Nature is man’s teacher. She unfolds her treasures to his search, unseals his eye, illumes his mind, and purifies his heart; an influence breathes from all the sights and sounds of her existence.
~Alfred Billings Street
Here are picture´s from some of the cabins:

Dør fisk – dør fugl – dør furu – dør folk Nordahl Grieg
Roughly translated it means:
(If) Fish dies – bird dies – pine dies – people die

The future belongs to those who give the next generation hope.
PIERRE TEILHARD DE CHARDIN

Here are the pictures in the Captains cabin. He is from Bømlo, just like me, and we chose motifs from the western islands. This way, he can always remember his home. The poems I wrote, are also inspired by the islands.

CLEAR VISION
A prisoner of your own sorrow,
captivated by fear,
your soul is beautiful,
don´t pollute it with fear.
trust me, you deserve love.
Break the compromising pact
your soul swore the day your heart was betrayed.
Accept forgiveness,
it was meant for you,
and free your heart of hearts.
Let go of anger
sweep sorrow out the door,
breathe freely
and be strenghtened
by the salty sea-air.
The wisdom lies in your heart, just remember it.
True appiness will come your way,
pure love will spring to life,
all the gifts of life will trifold..
And you shall once again
be all that you were meant to be.
Janne Robberstad

PERSPECTIVE
The ocean awakes me
listen to the color of your dream
the sea takes me
to an unexpected clearview
I am shown
the complex simplicity of love

One of the things that makes this ship special, is the sky-lounge, which is placed above the bridge. The view from this room is amazing (although it is late at night, and dark outside on the picture below). I wanted to try something a bit different for this room, and made a big relief, 200×235 cm. The surface is a rain-forrest photo (that I´ve worked with) I took in Guatemala. It´s been printed on a thick plastic (about 1 cm) and cut into the shape of rain-forrest trees. Unfortunately I regret the photos doesn´t do the piece justice, as it looks way cooler i real life.
