Skandi Olympia!

By spotogspindel | June 10, 2009

Here are some of the pictures onboard Skandi Olympia. I took my Dad with me to Fitjar Mekaniske Verksted (the shipyard) today, and with a little help from Mr. Onin from DOF, we got all 40 pictures up.

skandiolympia

“A posse ad esse” –  “From opportunity to reality”

is the main picture in the mess. 100 x 60 cm.

I scanned the background from some of my painted watercolor-backgrounds, and added the layers in a photo-collage, which was printed on canvas.

These are pictures in the cabins, and some in the common areas:

All the mixed-media pictures are mounted on white, with black frames, and I think they look better then, than when they have all the black surrounding them. However, to get close enough to the pictures to show any of the details (even though they look a lot more textured in reality than here) I chose to close in. Sissel at Rammeboden, who does most of my framing, has once again done an excellent job. You can see further down in the post what they look like when they are framed.

This is in the conference-room. (Sorry about the reflection)

“Thank the waves” is print on thick silk, with machine-embroidered text:

The Olympia-series, photo-collages inspired by the first Olymic games in Greece, all pictures 20 cm high, width varies:

The encyclopedia-series (well, it only counts two yet…). I started making these, because at first we thought the ship would be working in Egypt. This is also mixed media, with print, stamping, stamps and seeds(!)

And here are some of the pictures on the walls onboard. As you can see, the ship is like a floating hotel, with some white, some brown real leather sofas :

the captain wanted variation, so in the staircase-walls I wanted to add some more color:

Here is another staircase-picture, this one with a motif from Austevoll.

And here is a detail-picture from Sissel´s framing:

Six hours later, and still all smiles!

Hi, my brother came to work in Skandi Olympia just this week, and I came across your site. Thanks for the post. I was overwhleming to see pictures on board. It eased my worries if my brother is in a nice ship. Thanks much…

    I love your art !!! 🙂
