Matre mosaic

By spotogspindel | September 28, 2013

Matre is a local firm which produces equipment for the offshore industry. They´ve been around for 60 years now, and for their anniversary they ordered an art piece for the reception area.

Saturday morning, and Solfrid, who works in personnel, helped me mount the pictures. It´s a big mosaic. The shape and sizes is actually from the stonewall outside the building. This particular stonewall was made by one of the founders of the company after he retired, so it was nice to use this as a base. It´s a company that started quite small, with only two men, and it´s gradually grown more and more, and now there are about 60 people working there. So the company´s progress through these 60 years have been building the company, slowly but surely, laying one stone upon another. Also a background idea for the stone-wall mosaic.

The company makes custom-made parts for equipment in different types of metal. So some of the parts were made of these different metals, and cut into shapes. Most of the pieces are photo-collage printed on brushed metal, and come about a  centimeter out from the wall. But the clean metal pieces are a bit deeper, and come about 1 1/2 cm out from the wall. They´re made of different types of bronze, aluminum, steel and titanium. IT really adds texture and interest to the piece.

Here you can see the picture in on the wall. The picture is about 100×150 cm. The motifs are all connected to the firm. People who work or have worked there, old documents and drafts & drawings. It says a lot about the firm´s history and field of work.

Hopefully everyone who works at Matre will enjoy it 🙂

Happy anniversary!
