It is cold in both january AND february where I live. February is the month for valentine’s day and, this year, for mardi gras, and both are good jump-off points for celebration. I lean more toward the celebratory feeling of mardi gras than the softness of valentines day, and am planning to make red beans & rice, help my pre-school grandchildren make masks with feathers and beads, share a king cake to see who will get the ‘baby’ at the close of the carnival season. The warmth of my family is especially welcome this cold time of year.
