Christmas is… hearts
By spotogspindel | December 16, 2009
Since Christmas is all about love, maybe I should just decorate with hearts…
Here are four different hearts:
My fabric Christmas ornament try-out for the swap I´m part of.

How to make a small paper-heart, using japanese origami-paper.
Cut the two different pieces like on the picture (look at the pattern below)
After it is braided, on the inside:
The finished heart, 1 inch wide, 2 inches high including the hem.
Systematic pattern:

You can make them in all kinds of paper, and in different patterns on the front braiding. Just make sure the paper isn´t too thick.
The ones blow I and my Dad made when I was one and he was… well, ok, he made them.

How to make a heart-shaped cushion:
Find an old sweater you don´t use anymore…
Cut a big heart shape through both layers of the front/back.
Since it is a knitted fabric, use an overlock sowing machine, or use overlock-seams on your domestic sowing machine.
Leave an opening o about 10 cm for the stuffing.
Fill them with soft pillow-stuffing (sorry, don´t know the real name, poly-something), and hand-sow the opening. You can o course decorate them, but i chose to leave them plain.
The big one is a pillow, the smaller ones can be used as ornaments. Add a red ribbon when you sow the top, and voilá!

More red hearts, this time in crochet.
I made these years ago, and forgot all about them. While sorting out some rubbish in the basement, I found them in between some old school papers. It takes about half an hour to make one. Years ago I made a bunch of these, and gave them to friends and family for Christmas. I really do prefer to make the presents myself, but have to admit that the past years, I´ve had less time to spend on this little joy.
