Christmas is… charity

By spotogspindel | December 8, 2009

Now, first of all, I am not posting this to show-off what a goody-goody I am. But I planning to make it a new tradition, and since I think it´s a very good idea, I hope to inspire others to do the same. I´ve mentioned before that I support the SOS Children’s Villages,  and I thought that I would send a christmas present to my village in Chile this year. I visited a SOS-village in Guatemala, and was deeply impressed with their work and their vision.

I support a village, but you can also support a child, either way, it is recommended that if you send gifts, it should be something that all the children living there can enjoy. That way, they can avoid unnecessary envy. Sending it half-way around the world,  thought I´d keep it relatively light too.

I first thought of children´s books. But they don´t have any in English here in Bømlo, let alone in Spanish… So second idea, a game. I found this puzzle which can be used in learning math. (Maybe the teachers will like it better than the kids?) , some crayons,  a bag of balloons and some stickers just for fun.

There are plenty of other ways to be a bit generous towards those who need it. There are homeless-shelters and orphanages in larger cities, or even homes for the elderly, or the seamen´s church, or … several others. If you have lots of old grown-out-of toys, why not give them to a kindergarden?
