Celebrate April

By spotogspindel | April 1, 2010

1. April´s fool day! Have fun, go mad! (without hurting anyone, of course)

2. Today is H. C. Andersens birthday, and in his honor I thought today would be a perfect day to make a painting from one of his stories. How about the little mermaid?Or the ugly duckling?

3. Find-a-rainbow-day. Now, living on the west-coast of Norway, the rain-part shouldn´t be a problem. The sun however… Maybe I´ll just have to pull out my paint and create one! And remember to smile to the people around you. That way you are your own little golden treasure at the end of the rainbow :-)

4. Easter. The real meaning of  Easter, is the Resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. To Christians, it is the most special day of the year. Weather you believe or not, maybe you should go to church today, and learn something about one of the biggest religions in the world today. First-hand knowledge is never a bad thing. Neither is understanding.

5. Gosh, there´s a lot of Sundays this month! Let´s just make the most of it. I´m gonna be ARTing all day.

6. Since April is International guitar month, why not borrow a guitar from a friend and learn a chord. If you learn the G-chord today, the C-chord tomorrow, and the E-chord on Wednesday, you have all the chords needed for playing a hundred songs by Thursday. Easy, huh!!? :-)

7. No housework today-day. Well, that is just as well. You´ll be practicing the C-chord anyway, right?! Just remember to feed your body with something good. I mean something good for your body. Today happens to be the international health day. So unless you are out running, make sure you at least eat healthy :-)

8. Draw a picture of a bird-day

9. So by now you know the C-, E-, and G-chords, right? Get your hands on “Twist and shout” by The Beatles and play  along. Doing ok? Invite your friends over for a concert! Have them bring their own instruments, and play along. Maybe you should start a band!

You think I´m kidding, don´t you. Well, then you have no idea how much fun you can have with music!

10. Start the day by taking a long walk in the nature, watching how it comes to life. It´s fascinating to see how the flowers survived winter, and stretch every day in their growth. As always, remember to bring your camera along.

11. Find an old book and make it into a book with a secret compartment. Look at my process in Arting at Michelle´s.

12. Russian astronaut Yuri Gagarin became the first man in space 1961 aboard Vostok 1. He spent 108 minutes in space. This day was decreed by the USSR’s Supreme Council on April 9th, 1962. This flight marked the beginning of the space race. While Russia (then the USSR), put the first man in space, The United States went on to be the first to put a man on the moon. 19 years later, in 1981, the US launched the space shuttle Colombia.

So what is our creative challenge today? Find your old Michael Jackson-CD, and do the moon-walk! I´ve said it before, I´ll say it again: there isn´t enough dancing in the world! So let´s dance out of this world today:-)

13. New Year is celebrated in Cambodia, Laos and Thailand today until the 15th. Celebrate with them by eating Thai food for dinner. Nice and spicy!

14. Reach as High as You Can Day is a day to expand your horizons. And, it truely will be an uplifting experience. Today, there are no limits. You can literally reach for the sky. Is there something you’ve wanted to “go for”, and felt it was just out of reach? A new job, perhaps? Maybe a date with that cute co-worker or classmate. Whatever the challenge you face, if you reach as high as  you can, you just might win the prize. And, you will never know until you try. So, use Reach as High as You Can Day to reach and attain, or even surpass, your goals and objectives. You’ll be oh, so glad that you did!

15. Buy a pack of tulips in your favorite color and plant them in your garden. Make sure you plant them in a spot so you can see them from inside, maybe from the breakfast-table.

16. Make a self-portrait today. Chose your favorite medium and a theme. Like a color or a mood.

17. Today I think we should make a bird-house. It´s on my 41-list, and this is the perfect time of year to do it.

18. Invite some friends over for a fun photo shoot. Use your bodies to make the different letters of the alphabet. When you´ve gotten the whole alphabet, develop the film and make copies. Make words or mottos with the letters and maybe a Happy-birthday-card.

19. Visit your parents. Tell them your favorite thing from your childhood, and thank them for doing such a great job raising you!

20. Oh Boy! It’s Look Alike Day. Time to look like somebody else…..copycat. Try dressing up, fixing your hair-style and make-up like your chosen look-alike. Try posing for a picture, and see if you can pull it of as. Make-up artist Kevin Aucoin has a great book with a chapter on how he turned celebrities into other celebrities just by changing hair-do´s and make-up. Look alike contests and parties are a great idea for today.

21. Make brownies with cut almonds, and eat it warm with vanilla ice cream.

22. We´ve got to create something this week too. Try painting with acrylics on cotton fabric. You get some nice details that you won´t get while panting on paper. If you sow a bit on the cloth first, you can get some funky effects.

23. International sing out day. Make your voice heard. Write a letter to your local political representative or the newspaper about an issue that you think should be addressed. Or join Amnesty International´s texting petition.

24. Astronomy Day is a day to look up to the stars.  It was established to promote astronomy to the general public. Astronomy clubs and groups use this day to help teach the people about the stars, and other celestial bodies in the universe. These groups take advantage of this day to offer people a view of the stars through a telescope if possible. So see if you can find a telescope. If not, borrow a book or a DVD at the library about this fascinating theme. Did I tell you I wanted to an astronaut?

25. When you put your clothes on today, make sure it´s all black and white, – the penguin colors. Because today is Penguin Awareness Day and a great opportunity to learn about and appreciate one of the few natives of Antarctica. Anyone who can stand living in such a cold place, deserves honor, if you ask me!

26. Go out and dig in the garden. Make space for a tiny kitchen garden. If you don´t know anything about gardening, the easiest way to grow something is by putting potatoes in the ground. In August they´ll be ready for eating.

27. Tell-a-story-day. Find your favorite child and tell your favorite childhood story.

28. Another garden-day. This time of year, when spring is finally here, we should appreciate it by spending some time out in the fresh air. Digging in the dirt is a pretty good form of meditation. There´s lots to do in the garden: clean away winter, show your plants some care, plant some new, make outdoor-plans for the summer.

29. The zipper was invented on this day in 1917. Why not buy a zipper by the yards and make a purse. Look here for inspiration.

30. Hairstyle Appreciation Day celebrates uniqueness of all styles of hair. It allows us to express our individuality. Celebrate today with a new hairstyle. Then go through your photo-albums and scan pictures of yourself with different hairstyles. This will be the beginning of a great collage. Have fun, go mad! :-)

Oh, and never forget: today you send me suggestions on how to celebrate May!
