The big experiment!

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010

Well, what do you know. I´m finished! The biggest picture needs another coat of varnish tomorrow, but all the experimental painting that I´ve been so nervous about, is done. And it turned out quite good. If I have to say so myself
Here are some photos of the last part of the process.

Mixing up [...]

Varnish

Monday, February 15th, 2010

I´ve been trying out different types of varnish, and the effects they leave. Here is the first part of the process, with painting the texture.

It doesn´t show until the third layer of the varnish-aging process, but then you clearly see where you´ve not had enough of the first layer… (and then it´s too late) Better [...]

Creative Friday!

Saturday, February 13th, 2010

I finally finished the first part of the big wooden picture, and decided to celebrate by taking the evening off, and doing something fun. Which to me means creating and spending time with friends. Preferably both at the same time
While waiting for my creative friends to come over, I decided to start with [...]

wooden painting # 3 update

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

Here are some day-to-day pics of the big wooden picture.

It´s taking it´s time, but there are so many details to get right.

Getting closer… a few more days now.

New audio-book. This time it´s Minette Walters. Some authors use a lot of words to tell a story. She´s one of them.

Wood cut workshop

Sunday, February 7th, 2010

I attended a wood-cut workshop last night. Our teacher, Jan Terje Rafdal, is a very talented graphic artist.

Here he is in his studio. A very inspiring place, might I add. He is also a great painter, and you can see some of his oil-paintings here.

Here he is showing some of his work, and how metal etching [...]

Wooden painting # 3, part 3

Friday, February 5th, 2010

Another day in the studio in the attic. I´ve spent so much time on the little boat on the right, that I gave myself the prize of painting a couple of people! Fun!

(Tomorrow is Friday, and I think I´m gonna put in a little Illustration Friday-break, just to tickle my creativity in between [...]

Wooden painting # 3, part 1

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

First, here is a photo of picture 2, after I´ve changed the color of the house from red to green. It calms the picture I think. And also the original was green. I didn´t know this from the black-and-white photo, but was told so later on. Probably a warmer tone than this one, but still.

I´m [...]

Paint on wood. Second picture. 2

Friday, January 29th, 2010

Another day of painting and listening.
New audio-book. This time there are crime-scenes both in Sweden and London. Young gay boys being killed. And several heros are trying to solve the case.

I´m not liking the greyish-red wall in the background, it´s way too heavy. Even though I´m not finished with it, I want to change the [...]

Paint on wood. Second picture.1

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

Well, here we go again. Second part of the big picture. Acrylics on wood. I´m still nervous. Maybe because this time the people on the picture are the man who commisioned it, his mother and her friend. A family-portrait, so to say.
What trick have I found to solve this? I listen to audio-books. Right now [...]

Making glass-beads

Thursday, January 21st, 2010

What an exciting start on my day! My friend Marianne invited me over to make glass-beads. I´ve never done anything like it at all before, and was super-excited!

Warming the glass-stud gradually in the propane-flame.

When it is glowing, you can twirl it around a metal-rod that´s been pre-fixed with some sort of poisonous stuff I don´t [...]
