aMUSEing London

By spotogspindel | September 14, 2010

Every time we go to London we try a new hotel, as we haven´t found the perfect one yet. Not even close. But this it wasn´t so bad. They promise to make good any loss of property of the guests even if it wasn´t their fault. A few minor exceptions of course:

If the hotel refuses to refund my horses, I just don´t know if it´s worth coming back…

This was the last weekend of our family-holiday, a bit late, but nevertheless great fun!

Friday we spent six hours at Wembley Stadium, listening to warm up bands and finally MUSE. I spent most of that time being thoroughly impressed with the engineering skills of the guys who made the roof. It was practically hanging mid-air. And it refused to fall down, which of course is a really good thing.

Of course this did not prevent me from really enjoying the music as well. I´m really starting to like it. All recording was illegal, so of course there is lots of tapes on Youtube. Wanna see? Here!

I was also impressed by the lead singer. He is the only guy I´ve EVER seen wearing a sequin suit, without looking silly and/or sad. He actually looked pretty darn good. Or as good as you can look on a screen 150 meters away…

What else? Oh yes! It´s alway fun when the lighting designer, the sound-engineer and the special-effects guys synchronize their all-effects-on-button! “This one goes to eleven!” to quote Spinal Tap. Fun, fun, fun!

One of my favorite parts of the experience was (I´m probably being strange here) being part of a crowd of 70 000 all leaving at the same time after the concert. I can´t believe how quietly and efficiently and smoothly everything went! WOW! The Londoners really know how to organize! Respect!

Saturday we had our marathon musical day, with two 3-hour long Andrew Lloyd Webber musicals. I´ve seen them both before, but Karoline wanted to see them, and I´m SO not hard to ask 🙂

Sunday was the girly shopping day. We started off with London Vintage Fashion, Textiles and Accessories Fair. Karoline got herself a cool bowler hat and I got this incredibly sweet umbrella from ca 1920.

And finally a picture from one of the sales-halls at Harrods. Wouldn´t you just love to shopping for a new purse at a store that looks like the Farao´s living room!?! All of Harrods is like a giant set-design, which I am a great fan of.

And they can get you anything. ANYTHING. Last century a guy decided to test their motto, and ordered an elephant. Four weeks later he had a problem…

Tell me about your best London experience!

‘which of course is a really good thing.” Heh, you are very funny.

You know they only specified ‘live’ animals not being covered. Obviously stuffed animals would be fine…

I absolutely LOVE London! Whenever I go to there I feel like I’m at home. I lived there in 1974, actually only a stone’s throw from Wembley Stadion 🙂 and keep going back. It’s a fascinating city! Your pictures capture it well, the markets, musicals, and Harrods – don’t get me started 🙂
